TOWN BOARD AFFAIRS. At a meeting of the towu board on Monday evening, Mr Walton was re-elpcted chairman. Among the correspondence received was a letter complaining of laxity of duty on the part of the pound keeper. The board decided to call for fresh applications for that post, and also that the charge of the pound should be under more strict regulation. The domain grounds having been vested in tho board, it was resolved that the commissioners inspect the ground, which is now lying idle, with the view of deciding what was best to be done in the matter. If not attended to at once it will in a short time be completely overgrown with furze. Mr Armstrong was appointed engineer to the board, and was directed to prepare plans of some alterations and improvemeuts required. It was decided to enforce the Act relating to furze and briars growing on the streets and roads. The endowments vested in the board will be cleared of these nuisances and rented. Tho greater portion of the Government paddock naung been cut up and sold, the purchasers in their own interests will clear the allotments of gOrse, bat there is some grow ing on that part reserved for the police-station and courthouse, and on other unsold lots, and this the Government have been requested by the board to remove. As the board are trustees for the domain, Mr Walton has been elected chairman of that body also.
OHBE3K FACTORY, Tbo directors met on Wednesday evening, when the 14th met was the day fixed upon for beginning operations for the current season. For this year as for last, milk will be paid for on the percentage standard, and instead of paying by cheque bills will be given quarterly, the company not to pay the bank discount. The directors anticipate a much larger supply of milk this year than last. It would be a pity if sufficient wero not sent to warrant the company continuing operations.
