Sydney, October C>. The man now in custody has admitted that he is Caffrey. The vessel wm allowed to go ashore in order to get rid of it, in the belief that all trace of it would thus be destroyed. The name had been painted over to prevent identification soon after leaving Auckland. Caffrey will be formally charged with tho murder, and remanded until tho arrival of a police officer from Auckland. The police have not yet got on the track of Perm, but they now possess clues which they believe will enable them to urn lam down.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— PRKSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. Colonel Whitmoro lias received the following cable from the Commissioner of the Police at Sydney. " Sydney, October b'th, Commissioner of Police, Wellington. Offender in custody, ad in its being John Caffrey. He also states that Perm and Lizzie Graham were drowned by the capsizing of the boat in attempting to land. The statement, however, is doubted, further search is being made.-— E. Fosbrhry."
