FOOTBALL Upper Waipa v. Hamilton.
Thk roturn match between combined To A.wamutu, Alexandra and Kihikihi and the Hamilton clubs was played on Sydney Square, Hamilton, on Saturday Lvst. Messrs Graham and Hinton captained the teams respectively. The captains acted a--, umpires, and Mr C. G. Beale filled the position as referee most satisfactorily to both sided. Hamilton were very short of men, and were obliged to pick up four from the spectators, who were rather numerous, and at times caused confusion by their authoritative! decisions on points in dispute. Old footballers at least might restrain the exubei'ance of thoir reibosity, and, cot inQreaso fcha difficulties of
fair play by irresponsible utter.wjcefa. Owing to the awkwanl trim scrvico, there was barely time to pi iy the match, which was arranged to commence at 11, but it was not till twenty minutes later that Hamilton kicked off against a slight wind, and the combined team were immediately forced down. Daring the whole of tho first spell neither bide held the advantage for long together. S"\eral good runs were made, Mold and GJ-uird being conspicuous, and after some pretty tough play the hrat spell closed without any score. In the second spell Hamilton had decidedly the best of it, and although the weight of the combined team was a great advantage to them, tho Hamilton men appeared to pull together, and took advantage of any fumbling by their opponents. About tho middle of the spoil a touch wa» obtained for the combined, but the ball had been called b.ick for ohSide play, and the «coru was consequently diaillowed. "No side," was called shortly afteiward*, and the match was consequently drawn. Hinton, darken, Bindon, and McSweency jilayod well for Hamilton, Guud dlao filling Ins place as full back witli credit ; Scorgie ami Y. Muir.iy showed gioat pluck in dropping on tl»« ball before the heavy weights' charge-. For tlic combined team M.teFnrlane, Moki, Pearson, Graham, and Baylisu all worked well for their aide. After the usual chcerH had been exchanged tho Waipa team at once left for the train.
