AN INGENIOUS FORGER. [BY TELEGRAPH-PRESS ASSOCIATION .] Christchurch, Friday.

To-day a young man named Jonathan Robert*, formerly a bank clerk at Tunaru, was arrested for forging a cheque for £76 on the National Bank, drawn in the mine of Messrs Balantyne and Co., drapers, Christchurch. The accused haxing previously acquainted himself with Balnntyue and Co.'s signature by sending a boy with £2 7*, for which he requested a cheque in change, representing that it was to Msnd to a person in Wellington. Ho got another boy to present tho forged cheque at the bank, wheie the fraud was m>t detected. £o3 of the money has been recovered.
