TE AROHA.
[from our own correspondent. 1 TkAroha, Wednesday. The soiree and concert held on Monday evening in connection with the Wesleyan Church was successful, almost beyond anticipation, the Public Hall, which was used for the occasion, being barely large enough to afford sitting room for the people present. The proceedings throughout were of a very pleasing nature, and comprised addresses by the Rev. Mr Dean {chairman), the Re*\ Mr Best, ot the Thames, nnd the Rev. J. Marshall, Church of England. There was an abundance of good things on the tables, which were generously provided by Mesdames Lavery, Mackie, Emmerson, and other ladies of the congregation. The musical selections rendered by the choir pleasingly diversified the entertainment, and the songs given by Mr Darby and Misses Hartley and Smith contributed much to the evening's enjoyment. Much praise is due to all concerned for the excellence of the arrangements, and it is satisfactory to know that the proceeds will form a substantial addition to the church funds. Now that the fine weather is setting in there seems to be a slight revival in the building trade. Mr George Lipsey is erecting a handsome seven-roomed house on his farm near the race course. Mr C. Balcke has let a contract for a neat fourroomed cottage, afid a fender has been accepted for the erection of extensive stables and other improvements at the
Hot Sprinprs Hotel. As the summer approaches there will doubtless be a further increase of prosperity. The sitting:) ot the R.M. Court, hitherto usually held on Tuesdays, will, for a time, take jjlace on alternate Fridays. The next sitting will be on the Bth of October, and the following one on the 23rd.
