FATAL FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
A fouh-koomkd cottape at the rear of the Clarendon Hotel, Auckland, occupied as a laundry by Mrs C. E. Mudden, was destroyed by fire on Thursday ni^ht, and one of Mrs Maddens children, a boy five years of age, perched in the flames. The fire was caused by the upsetting of a kerosene lamp, which set fire to the bed clothe*. Mrs Madden and three other children escaped.
