It is understood that Lieut.-Col. Roberts, who is in charge of the Constabulary on the West Coa*t of this Island, is to be removed to Auckland, to take charge of the permanent forces there. In the bankrupt estate of Cha«. Cheymol, wine merchant, the total liabilities aie set down at £10,101, and the assets at £7^2, leaving a deficiency of £!K3S:\ The funeral of the late Mr Brandon, M.L.C., this afternoon, was largely attended. The Governor's carriage was present, and members of the Ministry were also present. The solicitors' offices in town were clo*ed as a mark of respect. The Marine Department wrote to the United States Fishing Bureau, asking for a further supply of ova of vaiious species, and a reply has just be received from Professor Baird, who states that he will have great pleasure in meeting the wishes of the New Zealand Government as far as possible. He thinks he can supply as many white fish eggs as wanted. He is somewhat doubtful as to the salmon and Californian trout. There will bo no charge for the whito fish, except the expense of forwarding from Michigan to San Francisco. Probably, he says the bureau will have to obtain] trout from someone else. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, Chas. Hodgson waa committed for trial on two informations*, chaigmg him with embezzling the moneys of the Union Bank. One information is for £150, and tho aecond comprises two sums of £34 and £30. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £130 each.
