NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
THfl ordinary meeting of the Newcastle Road Board was held at the school-house, Whatawhata, on Saturday, the 11th September, at 10.30 a.m. Present: Messrs Corboy (chairman), Shepherd, Crawford and Corbett. Letters received were read as follow :— From Kenny and Moore asking to be recouped the cost of the dynamite used on their contract ; from Harris and others, re road formation ; J. Char! ton, re road to farm ; The -jWaikato Times account, £4 10s <Jd ; from J. P. Thomson enclosing circulars re Hospital and Chantable Aid. The following tenders for engineering were opened : — D. J. Scott 7i per cent, on expenditure, or 8a per day, or £25 per year ; T. G. Sandes % per cent, on' expenditure ; surveying, 30s per day and labour additional ; A. Armstrong, £25 per year to prepare plans and specifications, or 7 per cent, on £300 expenditure ; James Calderwood 8 per cent, on expenditure on roads, the board to supply a man when required. Mr Shepherd's proposition •' That Mr Sandee' tender for engineering be accepted, being the lowest," lapsed, not having been seconded. Resolved that the consideration of Mr Hay's account be deferred until a satisfactory explanation is given by him as to how the late Mr Johns' obtained the memorial of title for bis land without the amount due upon it being paid, the clerk to write to inform him of the same. It was resolved that 81 be paid Kenny and Moore to compensate them for outlay on dynamite ; that Mr Grix s account, be paid, 104 chains road formation at 3s 3d per chain, £16 18s, and previous balance, £1 10s, less £5 previously paid ; that the sum of £1 10s be paid to W. Shephard, balance of contract. Resolved that Thos. Jones' account of £11 Is 6d and £15 progress payment, total £26 Is Gd be paid; that the clerk write to Harris and others to say the board will take steps to ascertain the cost of road formation referredto in their letter; that Mrs Martin Hokonui, be written to to ask for a right Sway through her property mHorotiu; that Mr Charlton be informed that the Sbjectof his letter will be considered at the next meeting of the board ; that the Hampton Road Board be informed that the board twill bear half of the outlay on the old Whatawhata road, sum not to exceed five po^ds; that J. Kennedy's tender for Crawfords road formation and draining as ftillowß 2s lid per chain road formation, i draining £1 2s 6d per chain, be M inted that the Public Trustee be wriUen to, to ask if, on the board obtaining SdSmSnt of court for unpaid rates, he will tike over the lands and judgment^without farther cost to the board; that Mr Grix E authorised to erect three culverts on the tb The ratting thentermraated^
