THE RISE IN LAKE ROTORUA, THE SHORE SUBMERGED. [by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Roiorua, Friday.
THK Kntoiti Sawmill Company's timber yard and the main n>nd through tin; Government township to T.iupo is completely submerged for nearly a quaiter of a mile. I .saw the manager proceeding to his office under difficulties in a boat, fmm winch he stepped into the office. Possibly the doveminent in s t »h«rting this site f<u the town ship had an eye to a futuie " Venice of th<; South." The old tapucd point on which tho church \\a* recently eieetr-d us also under water. The fury of tho wa\es i»f tins mini iture ocean having? unearthed several of the bodies buried there, a melancholy procession of relatives and others pioceeded to loniove the bodies to higher ground. Some two or three of the coffins and their cont'-nts are still floating undiscovpiud i»n th«s now placid bosom of the Lake. Notwithstanding all thi>, the scientists persist in their statements that the level of the Like remains unalteied, though the oldest inhabitant, native or European, never saw water in either of the«e places I .should advise intending purchasers at the forthcoming Government land sale to acquaiiU themselves with a probable price and use of the Venetian gondola.
