OHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. A singular case of death hy drowning occurred At Springfield to-day. A child, two years old, the daughter of Mr Heenan, of the Springfield Hotel, slipped into a pool of water a few inches deep, falling on her face. Although she could not have been more than a tew moments in the water when taken up by a Mpter, all attempts to restore animation proved unsuccessful, Wednesday. ROSS, Tuesday. In the libel .action taken against the Hokitika Evening Guardian proprietors, lor making f.ilsa and malicious statements to Messrs Stewart, Dawsou, and (X, Dunedin, wherein it was stated the plaintiff's newspaper, the Ross Advocate and Guardian had ceased publication, the plaintiff claims £."500 damages.

DUNEDIN, Tuesday. A High School boy, named Noel Lhch, son of the manager of the Union Rank, dropped dead this morning when playing with his schoolmates.
