(JISBORNE, Tuesday. At the inquest on George Johnson, who committed suicide at Makaraka, by blowing his brains out, the jury returned a verdict of temporary insanity.
CHRIS I CHURCH, Tuesday. Last night the shop of Mr B. Button, painter and glazier, was broken into, and glazier's diamamld to the value of £ % 2o stolen. Other instances of breaking into and stealing have occurred recently, but not of so serious a character. Wednesday. At 0 p.m. there was no sign of the Wanaka, which left Dunedin at 3 p.m. on Monday. This afternoon the weather was so thick at Lyttelton Htads that the sea was not visible from the pilot station. As the Wanaka must have had a heavy sea and north-east winds against her, with a lee shore, she has probably stood out to sea, waiting for the weather to clear. Cipt Kennedy, of the steamer Hauroto, which arrived from Wellington this morning, states that a tremendous sea was running on the coast. It is still raining heavily here. At the Lyttelton R.M. Court this morning, Kate Kelly was committed for trial, charged with themanslaugterof her husband, Thos. Kelly.
