The survey of the Chasca has shown that she must undergo extensive repairs. All the cargo is now being discharged to enable these to be effected. Arrived : The Rotomahana, from Auckland, yesterday evening. Melhourxe, August 18. Sailed, yesterday afternoon : Wairarapa, for the Bluff. In the Legislative Assembly last night a formal resolution approving of the Budget was voted. During the sitting Mr Gillies, the Premier, made a statement to the effect that the Victorian Government had deemed it unnecessary to ask the other colonies to renew the protest regarding the New Hebrides. The only satisfactory solution would be to fi\ a date for the withdrawal of the French troops. The colonies, he added, were agreed regarding the influx of criminals, and the prevention of contamination therefrom.
