"THE NATURAL HISTORY " OF A £5 NOTE.

The other day a io note of the National fiiink of Scotland disappears! from a house in Scotland in an unaccountable way. It seems that a divinity student lodging in the house in question left the note underneath his board book in order that the landlady might square off his account tor the month.' Unfortunately, he neglected to tell her of the circumstance, and during the day the note had been seized by a young collie dog in the house, and all eaten up with the exception of a small corner, containing a portion of the signature ot the head accountant and part of the number. The banknote was not missed until the following morning, when the dog being snepected, was given a strong emetic, and immediately disgorged its expensive supper. The contents were gathered together and carefully pasted on a prepared sheer, and are about to be sent to head quarters in Edinburgh. The number on the right side is entire, but the bank manager's name is entirely obliterated by the chemical actions of the dog's digestive organs. Sufficient of the valuable bit of paper currency remains, however, to establish its identity, and there H but little doubt that the value will be recovered, although it was fourteen hours in the dog's stomach.—* 1 (Jla«<gow Mail."
