TAUPO. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
At the R.M. Court on Tuesday, the 3rd of August, before Major Scannell, R.M., William Ryan was charged with utoaling a saddle and bridle belonging to J. Gallagher 1 . The saddle and bridle were given to him to ride to Taupo from Tokano, where he wa» to give them to Mr Gallagher. He came through on foot, s and said he left the saddle and bridle at Tokano, but he told different tales to several people, so he was charged with the theft, and Constable Pegley started in pursuit. The constable overtook' him about 30 miles from here, near Ateatnuri, and brought him back. Ryan was found guilty, and sentenced to two months with hard labour in Napier gaol. He wan also charged with breaking' into Te Heu Heu's whare at Waihi and stealing a piece of greenstone. This case was not proved, though a piece of greenstone was found on lii in that corresponded with the piece in Te Hen Hen's possession. There is plenty of snow, hail, and frost, with a bitterly cold southerly wind.
