Bankruptcy. Auckland, Monday Night. lN|thelbankruptcy of Henry Smith, formerly traveller for A. H. Nathan, the assignee stated his belief that the bankrupt had gone to England in the Kaikoura. The creditors took no steps to have Smith brought back to the colony. The amount of the liabilities have not yet been aaceitained.

Uttering and Forging. At the Police Court Ernest Moore was remanded on a charge of uttering and forging a cheque. The police asked for a remand, saying that another man was involved in the case. The counsel for tho defence said Moore was merely a cat's paw in the matter, having cashed the cheque for another man, who got the money. The police refused to assent to the prisoner's liberation on bail.

Supreme Court. At the Supreme Court to-day, in the case Waikuto Timber Company v. John Gwynneth and others, claim £T>oo, the plaintiff said that Sir Frederick Whitaker was interested in the case, and as account* had been gone into which would relieve the court of the trouble, he would ask for an adjournment, and the case was accordingly adjourned until the October session. En the case of Carrick v. Dignan and King, the Court gave judgment against defendants for £210, claimed by Carrick for services rendered in the winding up of the late Mr John Sheehan's affairs. The defendants are the executor.^. It was shown that although there is nothing whatevei in the estate to satisfy this claim they are legally liable for the employment of Carrick, and the Court gave judgment accordingly.
