SENATOR VANCE'S STORY.

The other day Senator Vance, of Noith Carolina, who is a great wag, was btinding with a party of Senators when Van Wyck passed. Says Vance: "Do you see those pantaloons old Crazy Horse has got on '! I never look at them without being reminded of a story of an old tarheel down in my State who went to th« circus for the first time in his life. When he came home he sat around the tavern oue night drinking moonshine wisky and telling his friends what he had seen. One of them says : • Uncle Zeke, did you see the bar at the circus ?' ' Waal, says the uustiouer, 'what kind of a bar was it, Undo Zeke ; V 'I never suuab'ar afore,' was the reply, 'but it T p€ars to me as if that mought be a right smart of a bar. Did you see the lion, Uncle Zeke?' put in another one. 1 Yes, I seen the lion.' ' Waal, • what sort of a lion was it, Uncle Zeke ?' I never saw a lion afore, but it 'pearcd to me that it might be a right smart of a Hou.' 'Did you see the camel, Uncle Zeke '* 4 Yts, I seen the camel.' ' What sort of a camel was it ?' ' Waal, I never seen a camel afore, but it 'peared to mi> that it mought be a tight smart of a camel.' 'Did you s>ce the elephant, Uncle Zeke?' 'Yes, I seen the elephant:' • What sort of an elephant was it, Uncle Zeke?' ' Waal, I never seen an elephant 'afore, but it 'peared to me that it mought be a right smart of an elephant, barring that he had a good deal of slack leather about his pants.' " .. — Chicago paper.
