The ,E<u-I of.Rosebeiy has infonnied M. *Wad#ngtou, - Freuch -Ambassador in London, that his Government will not consent to any departure t from- the existing understanding concerning ' the New Hebrides. ' ' -Paris, July 2G. The Official Jourrjal tf^4&y> in an article on the New Hebrides question, states thsvt the occupation of the group by France is only temporary, and, solely-^p^ the protection of French colonists. * ft sufdSj.tjhat the English and French Governments are now engaged in studying the modus vivendi view, and taking joint steps for tlje maintenance of older in the i*land«. •
THE LATEST. (Received July 28th, 3.10 p.m.) London, July 27. It is announced that active parleying is now proceeding between the English and French Governments for the withdrawal of the latter's troops from the New Hebrides.
