TE AROHA.

[FUOM OUR OWN COHRKSPONDEST.I Tk Akoha. Monday. A mkktino of the Domain Board was held on Saturday evening. Present : Messrs Gavin, Ahier (secretary), Lipsey, and Quin. Mr George Wilson being absent, Mr Gavin was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting 1 having been read and confirmed, the secretary read letters from Messrs Hawkins, Tn Aroha West, and Still\vell, Thames, offering to supply the board with trees and shrubs ; from Mr Hudson, railway traffic manager, re remission of charges, and intimating that in future articles consigned to the board would be conveyed free of cost ; from Mr Shailor, builder, offering a quantity of kauri timber and shingles ; and from the Under-Secre-tary of the Lands Department re application for grant to carry out certain improvements recommended by the board, and estimated to cost £2500. Referring to this application, the Under-Secretary writes to the chairman: — "I am directed by the Minister of Lands to state that as the Government cannot promise more than £500 in aid of the Domain during the year, you should specify the works which are more immediately required within that limit." The engineer was instructed to prepare a statement of the works that were most needed, so that it might be forwarded to Wellington without delay. Some further discussion took place regarding the charge made at the previous meeting against the caretaker of having used insulting language to a visitor. After full consideration, a resolution was passed "That the secretary be instructed to write to the accuser, informing him that the board considered he had failed to substantiate the charge." Mr H. Crump was appointed engineer to the board and general superintendent of works, the remuneration to be £100 per annum. It was resolved that the engineer be instructed to call for tenders for 400 trees, and the secretary was requested to convey the thanks of the board to Messrs Wiseman, of Thames, and Mr Elliott (a visitor), for presents of ornamental trees and plants. The following accounts were passed for payment ;— J. Stanley, labour, £8 ss ; A. K. Murray, advertising, £2 10.s ; Aroha News, advertising and printing, £3 7s 0d; Jas. Mills, work done, £1 15s ; Thames Newspaper and Printing Company, advertising, £1 19* ; freight, 2a ; J. Devery, smith work, £1 3s ; J. P. Vause, outlay on electric apparatus, !)s Gd. ' This concluded the business of the meeting. During the proceedings casual reference was made to the absurd rumours that were in circulation respecting the baths at the time of the ernption at Rotorua, and as an illustration a telegram from a noted Government scientist to the chairman of the board was read, asking whether there was any truth in the report that the Aroha springs had completely dried up. The chairman of course lost no time in replying that the waters continued to flow on the same in volume and temperature as they had always been.

Smokers should try the " Wake up " brasd at Knox's.
