PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
[.BY TELEGRAPH— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. 1 The District Railways Again. Wellington, Tuesday. It is commonly reported iv the Lobbies that Sir G. Grey intends moving a direct vote of no-eontidence in consequence of Sir J. Vogel's connection with the District Railways debentures. It was also rumoured yesterday that Major Atkinson feels so strongly in the matter that he intended taking the sense of the House on the whole business. The hitter report is generally disbolievpd, but everybody expects Sir George Grey will take further action in the matter, and indeed ho hinted a.4 much last night when he .said he should assist any body of men who were determined that such disgraceful transactions should not be allowed in future.
Economy in RepresentationMr John McKenzie, ono of the Government whips, intends moving when the Representation Bill in in uommittoe that the number of Eutopeun members should be reduced to seventy-one. He is whipping up actively for his motion and has great hope of carrying it. Several members, however, are of opinion that the bill will never get into committee this session and that it will not go beyond the second reading.
Revenue Returns. It appears from a return laid on the table of tho House that the respective contributions of the various provincial districts to the revenue of the colony during the past year are as follows :— Auckland, €49(5,209; Nelson, £99.012 ; Taranaki, £35,052 ; Weilington, £040,175 ; Hawke's Bay, £90,02(5 ; Marlborough, £31,314 ; Canterbury, £487,000; Westland, £48,687; Otngo, £753,110. The figures comprise customs, stamps, land and property 1 tax, beer duty and territorial revenue.
The Tarawera Sufferers. Mr Darpaville gave notice this afternoon that on Wednesday he will ask the Premier whether he will consider the expediency of providing legislative enactment during this session for the application of the surplus of the Kaitangata relief fund to wards relieving the distress caused by the volcanic eruption. No less a sum than £13,090 is in the hands of the trustees of the Kaitangata relief fund which is not required for those who were sufferers by that shocking disaster.
