At the invitation of the Governor, Home 40 or 60 mdipbfjrs of both Houses' had a convernation "with him this afternoon, on the subject of the Tarawera disaster. Colonel Brett moved, and Mr DarcftvilJ* seconded, "That a committee be formed consisting of tho Governor; the two Speakers, and three members' "from each House, to consider the tjest meanH of affording relief to the sufferers by the eruption. It was afterwards decided to add the mayor and chairmen of the local bodies to the committee It was suggested by His Excellency that a monster carnival might be held on Soame's Island in the harbour.
