On Mr Bell's resolution "That it in advisable th.it this associations should bo returned to the charge of the Government" the numbers were given as, fur 31K3, against 1508. On Mr Bell's alternative motion " That the board should bo reduced to six iueinbers,'of whom three should be elected, and the other three should be the Solicitor-* Jenoral, the Secretary to the Treasury, and either the Public Trustee or the Commissioner of Property T.n, throe to be a (|Unrum if the Chairman bo present, or four if thoChaiiman 1)!- not present, etc,' the voting was, for Ml ; agmist, 370(5. On Mr Fisher's motion, "That the central board be leconstituted, and that it consist of seven niembn*, four to be elected by the policy holders and three to bo nominated by the Government, the three nominated members not to be tiHici'rs of the Government ; (2), th.it the board so reconstituted shall elect it own chairman ; (3), that the honouraria be fixed at £100, for each member of the board, except the Chairman of Directors, who shall receive £'300 per annum," for 1717 ; against 2680. Several voting papers were informal, in consequence of policyholders cither voting in the affirmative for the whole three resolutions or voting in the negative for three. The total number of voting papers wan 5470. The following was the voting of the various districts on Mr Bell's first resolution : Auckland, for 028, against 100 ; Hawke's Bay, for 118, agahwt 130; Taranaki, for 100, Against 34 ; Wellington, for 407, against 250; Nelson, for 157, against 23; Marl* borough, for 40. against 28 ; Westland. for 150, against ; Canterbury, for 543, against 200; Otago, for 005, aarainst 303 ;_ Southland, for 181, against 84; mixed districts, for 259, against U\l A vote of thanks to Sir J.
