TE AWAMUTU NEWS.
Aktkk the departure of tho Row Mr Phillips, and until tho arrival of tho Key. Mr Boler, the choir of S. John's Church fell off greatly. There being no conductor, the attendance gradually dimished until very few indeed put in an appearance at the practices. Since Mr Boler'* arrival, howaver, things ha\e altered for the better, and the attendance has increased, eighteen being present for practice last week. They were invited to the parsonage, whore a very pleasant evening was spent, with music and singing. Mr Boler is a thoiough musician, and under his guidance I have no doubt that the choir will attain a standard of excellence winch we may reasonably e\peet from good musicians and a good conductor. The sooner so'ne .step? are taken to procure a medical man tho better. Several serious cases of illness have occurred here recently, necessitating the presenco of a doctor. It is not always convenient for a doctor in another distiict to leave his own patients for others at a distance. None of the local governing bodie-, t.o f.iran I am aware, except the Te Awamutu Town Board, have given any indication of an intention to move in the matter. So it will go on until something .seiioiis happen 1 ), when we shall all be in a qic-it huny to get a resident doctor. Jt is too bad that a district such as this has to go begging for medical attendance. There can be no question of the excellent opening Iheie is here, but most of the doctors Irom the Old Country try to get a city practice in preference to a countt y one, u ftich might really be the more lucrative ot the two, but which would entail more work and long Owing to some neculiaiity in tho air of thin district the registrar of births is
kept pretty busy, which fact alone nhould be it good inducement to a doctor to coino here. But though wo are in want of one b.icJly enough, 1 don't think wo are prepared to take tin? first boy who offers. For Ruch a district an this ft doctor should possess bomo experience. To wich a one a good practice now presents itself. — (Own Correspondent.)
