Mr Wkhbkh, manager of the Mouth* Pacific Petroleum Works, reports that thethird sand was struck at n depth of 1140 1 feet, the drill being 40 feet in advance. Thit> drill bore was one foot into the sand, when a Rood show of oil was found, and a plug whs then inserted, according to instructions from Sydney. Upon opening tho hole the plug was found to have been forced up 40 feet to the bottom of the pipe, and some HO or 70 feet of oil and sand forced round the plug into the pipe. The rammer was placed on tho plug, which was driven within ten feet of the bottom. All the fluid was then pumped out, but within an hour the pipe had tilled to the same depth again. Tt was baled outthree times with the bame result. He estimates that the present indications are good for a 20 to HO barrel well.
