Thr following is told of a well-known diner-out whose Jove of oysters is notorious". The criminal statistics of France for the year 1884 .have made their appearance. Thorp were 17 parricides,. 234 assassination, 170 cases of infanticide, 101 minders, r>o fraudulent bankruptcies, and 1,0L7 aggravated felonies during 12 months. Of minor offences there were 15.1,000, being an iucrease of .5,000 on those of ISS3° and of 12,00 on those of 1882; as to roeidivistes, there were no less than 80,000 in 1824, which is an increase of 23 per cent in four years, serving to show that the number of habitual and inveterate criminal* ib steadily augmenting.
