The occupants of a sleeping car on a road running into Chicago were cleaned out by a thief a few nights ago. Among the victim* j was a Detroitcr. In the morning, when tha losses became known, tho conductor went through the car to take down names and amounts. '•What was your loss '"asked the Detroiter to his scat-mate. " It was 17d015., but I shall say 150dol«. What was yours ?" "Only lodols., and I shall give in th* true figure*." " You're a fool to do it !" " Well, I only want what I lost." When tha conductor came along b* inquired : "Well, gents, give ma names and amounts, p1ea.«.0." " My name is Smith, of Milwaukee, and I lost just §130.50," replied the one. "All right-all right; company wfll promptly make good the loss." " And yon?" "My name i« Blank, 'of Detroit," ». pliPd the Detroiter, " aud my loss wa» only Sl3. " Thirteen dollars, eh ? All right. The. company will make a rigid investigation of your case? Something very suspiciou* about it, \ cry ! You may be the Chun who did the robbing !"
