FOOTBALL Hamilton v. Cambridge.

Thk first tnfttch between these teams came off lout Saturday, and resulted in a win for Cambridge by foiW joints to two. The game was played in two spell* of 40 minutes etch, the first time the correct division of time has been adopted in these matches ; all players were much pleased with the change. Yon Sturnier winning the toss for Hamilton, chose the northern goal, and play was at first rather in favour of Hamilton, who ought to hare scored if they had had any nous on their side. Cambridge however, relieved their lines by a couple of fine runs and good dropi, and were within an ace of scoring two or three times, w hen a funky Hamilton back made Suter a piesent of a try, from which however tho goal was a failure. The second term showed very even results, both goal lines being threatened often. The Cambridge men were the heavier in the scrums, and though the local team heeled out far more than thov had ever yet been persuaded to do, it was only the sterling play of G. Mayea, and Wood's excellent punting that kept the ball in equilibria Taking a slight advantage of a diversion effected by a cramp of Moon's, Odium gained a touch for Hamilton, which was, however, barren of further results. Towards the end of the spell Pilling got a slant, which, unproved in his usual dash, got another try for Cambridge. The goal, as too usual, was a failure. For Hamilton, You Stunner, Wood, and Mayes played excellently among the backs, and Gribble ana Odium in the more advanced division. Hunt was as usual worth a contingent to his side, whether as a player or skipper. Pilling, Morrissey and Suter were all dangerous, and having picked the cream I can only say that none of the rest wan skimmed milk. Messrs F. Pilling and C. Bealeas umpires and Mr T. G. Sandes as referee were all there. Fohwaro.
