LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The Kimberley Goldfields.

Auckland, Friday Night. Two more vessels, the Linda Webber and Notero, have been laid on to Kimberley.

The Population of the Province. Mr King, the chief census enumerator, is able now to give an approximate estimate for the provincial district. The Auckland census district, under Mr King's supervision, includes the whole of the provincial district, with the exception of the following districts :— Mongonui and Bay of Islands, Thames and Coroumudel, E^st Coast including Tauranga, Gisborne and Hotorua, and Waikato. Mr King estimates the population of his district at 87,000, and that of the rest of the province at 46,000, made up as follows :— Tauranga, Rutorua, And Taupo, 6,000; Gisborne, 6000; Waikato, 11,000; Thames and Coromandel, 11,000; Northern counties, 12,000. This will make the whole estimated population of the provincial district 133,000. If the probable natire population, 23,000, be added, it given the provincial district a population of 156,000 souls, considerably over one-fourth of the total population of the colony.

The Markets. Farm and dairy produce. Wholesale: Butter, prime fresh, 8d to lOd; cheese, good factory, s£d to 6d ; Canterbury, none ; eggs. Is 9d ; lard in bladders (scarce), 6Jd to 6jjd ; bacon and hams in cloth, provincial, G.Jd to BAd : hams, B.|,d to 9id.
