(Received 28th, 1 p.m.) London, May 27. At ft meeting of the Liberal party held today, Mr Gladstone announced that he was prepared to modify those clauses in the Home Rule measure which prohibited the retention of Irish members in the House of Commons, provided that the Bill was read a second time. Consideration of the proposals would then be postponed by committee until the autumn session of Parliament. Mr Chamberlain was not present at ' the meeting.
