Replying to questions, it was stated that the bonus of £1000 for LaMonte's goldRaving process had not Iwen paid, as by experiment it has proved a failure ; that it was impossible to get e\en approximate returns of the census papers till some time next month. Sevaral new bills were introduced. On the motion of Major Atkinson the following motion was carried :—" That facilities as to free passes should bo given t-> children attending private schools as to Government schools." Sir G. Grey moved th 3 sec >nd reading of the Limitation of Vote-* Bill. Sir K. Stout supported the Bill, a 1 * he had alwny-i b?en in favour of such a measure. Col. Trimble also suppoi ted the Bill, but would move an amendment in committee. Tne motion was carried on tha voiuos. Sir G. Grey moved the second reading of the Law Practitioners Bill. On the question beiner put the Ayes were 34, and the Noes 34. The Speaker give his cuting votes with the Ayes, and the motion wa* agreed to. Mr Billunej moved the second reading of the Native Reserve* Titles Grant Empowering Bill. He explained that the Bill whs brought in to enable grant* to be made tor Natives in various parts of the colony. Mr Bryce opposed the Bill on the ground that it w«is a return to personal government on the pirt of the Native Minister, which most of them thought had passed away. Mr Ballauco denied that there wa« any intention to return to personal government. The object of the Bill wa« to give effect to awards which had been made from time to time. Mr Bryco withdrew his objections on the understanding that the Bill would be amended in committee. The motion was agreed to. Mr Ballancn moved the socond reading of the Native Equitable Owners Bill, the object of which was to enable trusts in certain cases to ba ascertained. * Mr Locke said the Bill opened up a vnry largo question, and was in fact a colonial question. Mr Bryce moved the ajournment of the debate till next day, which was agreed to. The House adjourned at 5.30 till next day.
