In the Council, Mr Reynolds gave notice to move on Friday "That in the depressed state ofc the culony.it id desirable that the utmost economy shuilri be exercised in the public service, and that a committee be appointed to devise ine.nis to c.vny such economy into effect.'" On the motion of Mr Bueklny, a select committee was appointed to inquire into the best means of dealing with Ufi rabbit pest. The Council went into co-nmittoß on the Lost Debenture* Bill, which w.is reported without amendment. The bill was read a third timo and passed. The Police Force Bill w.\-> considered in committee, and one or two unimportant amendments having been argreed to, the Bill wm reported with amendments, and the third reading made au order for the following day. The Defence Bill was committed, progress was reported, leave being given to ait again on Tuesday next. The Council at 5.30 adjourned to next day
