SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT HUNTLY.
Gko. Smith, a miner employed in the Taupiri Coal Company's mine «t Huntly, met with a very serious accident on Saturday at about 9 a.m. He was engaged with other* in the work of shoreing the roof in one of ■ the drives, when a portion of the roof, composed of coal and clay, weighing about a ton and a-half, fell. The falling mans first struck the unfortunate man on the, head, knocking him on his face, and then fell on the lower part of his back and legs. The left leg was broken and the ankle badly fractured. The spine was injured, but to what extent has not yet been ascertained. The injured man was quickly .extricated by his mates and taken to his home, which is about two miles tkis side of Huntly, Dr Murch having 1 been in the meantime telegraphed for. Tht doctor
arrived about noon, sot tho broken limb mid Attended to tho other injuries, lie paid another visit to tho patient yestcr--lay, and report* that he appeals to bo progressing satisfactorily.
