RAILWAY REFORM.
MR Vaile delivered hit promised Jectnre on Railway Reform at LeQuesne's Hall, Hamilton, last night., The hall was filled by a representative gatheriug of townspeople and country settlers, and the greatest enthusiasm prevailed. The! chair was occupied by Mr A. Primrose, chairman of the Waikato County Council, under the auspices of which body the meeting was held. A. full report is held ovfer. The following resolutions were carried unanimously :—: — Proposed by Mr \V. A. Graham and seconded by Capt. Steele, "That the matter of railway refoini in rates and charges is one of such vital importance to the ; agricultural interests and settlement policy of New Zealand thaji it should be considered and discussed in all places 'as independent of party bias or political feeling." ' ! " ' Proposed by MrSeddon and seconded by Mr, W. A. Graham, "That this meeting , views with grave alarm the depression at present existing in country districts, and believes a large amount of that depression to be caused by the present rate of charges in use on our railways, which we have no hesitation in saying is a complete hindrance to the occupation of country lands by, small •ejLtlers." . -Proposed by Mr Barugh and seconded by Captain Steele," That subscription lists be opened for the purpose of raising funds for reprinting Mr Vaile's pamphlet." Proposed by Mr G. W. Russell and seconded by Mr W. A. Graham, " That in the opinion of this meeting a New Zealand Railway Reform League should be formed to urge the House to appoint a commission to enquire into Mr Vaile's scheme of railway reform, or any other that may be proposed." Proposed by Capt. Steele, and seconded by Mr A. Swarbnck, " That this meeting earnestly requests the Government to appoint a commission of commercial and financial men to make searching enquiry into the general management of the railways, also into a system of levying fares and charges, proposed by Mr Samuel Yaile of Auckland, and any other scheme that may be brought under their notice, with a view to frame such a tariff of charges that country settlers will be enabled to send their produce to * seaport for the purposeof exportation, which the present rates completely debar them from doing. The following gentlemen wore elected members of the Reform League, with power to add :— Captains Steele, Runciman and Daley, Messrs Vaile, J. J. Barugh, A. Primrose, J. Martyn, jun., H. Steele, H. Reynolds, G. Edgecumbe, Jos. Hume, S. T. Seddon, S. S. Graham, W. A. Graham, Bindon, J. Parr, G. \V. Russell, F. J. Yon Stunner, Greville Smith, C. J. W. Barton, W. F. Bell,' A. Swarbriok and Bright. The Mayor of Hamilton (Mr W. A. Graham) was appointed convenor, and announced that the first meeting would be held at 11 a.m. to-day. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to Mr Vaile and the chairman.

Thb Lifb of AN M.P.— An M.P., deploring the evil effects ot London habits on the health, said that were it not for the American Co* Hop Bitters he could not live through with the irregular hours he was forced to keep. Said he : "As , soon as I feel weak and exhausted from Ion? night sessions and meals at irregular hours, I resort to my Hop Bitters instead of stimulants.
