The attendance was again very ]urgt>, although the weather wu showery during tins day. The recent rains spoiled the wicket, and it wu much cut up dm ing the day* play. Th« hoim- team went to the wickets for tbeir first inning*, and succeeded in making ravcia more than their opponents — namely, 105- — define they were all disposed of. Tht Australian bowling in this innings wan very g»od, G<trrctt taking six wicket* for two runs, \\ hile Spotforth took two wicketi for five, and Palmer one wicket for three runt. The Australian team, who had "cored 98 in their first imiinen, went in again fur second innintrs, making 70 before they were all out. Bnnnor making top score (23) during m splendid inning*, in which he never gave s> chance Barnes and Ulyott wero the most destructive bowlfrn on the Englwh lidt, the former taking seven wickets for talft runs, wlulc the latter took three wickeU for two. The English team then went to the wickets for the *ecnnd time, and whe» the slump* were drawn had placed 46 runs to their credit for the loss of two wickets. Shrewsbury and Bites, the uot-out men of the previous evening, managed to put together the number of runs required to win, Shrewsbury carrying out his bat for 15, while Bates hid 12 to hU credit.
