[REUTKB'S TKLEGRIMS.I Sydney, May 16. The death is announced of Mr Hugh George, manager of the Sydney Morning Herald, and formerly connected * with the Melbourne Argus. The French steamer St. Martin, from Havre, which put into Newcastle, had on board prisoners for Noumea. The St. Martin is the first of regular liners chartered by the French Government for the transport service at intervals of six months. [Received May lith, 1.10.1 Sydney, May 17. The remains of the late Mr Hugh George will be interred in the Waverley Cemetery to-morrow. It is announced that New South Wales has proposed to act in a similar manner to Victoria and South Australia in the matter of cable reductions, that is, she will offer no objections to non-contribu-ting colonies, participating in the lower tariff.
