OHINEMURI GOLDFIELD. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Waihi. Pakhoa, Friday. Silvkrtos.— First-class work continues to be done in this mine. Threo shifts are working in the low level towards the winze, and are breaking out the reef about three feet of stripping. First-class dirt containing visible gold is being won, and the run of gold is pretty certain to continue from tho face of the drive to tho winze, now about 34ft. distant. Amarvnth. — A small leader about eight inches thick saw daylight; this week while trenching was being proceeded with on tho surface. Good dish prospects have been got from it, and it is expected to get richer as worked upon. United.— Gold occurs freely in tho reef, and is visible at every In en kins? down. The reef in the low level is over four feet thick, and looks extremely well. Yellow Jackkt.— Good work is still being done in this claim, and shareholders are expecting much from the reef when struck.
General News. The chief e\ent of the week has been the advent of Mr L. M. Grace, M.H.R.. He arrived on Friday evening last from Tauranga, and was immediately the prey of denutati»n<*. On Saturday evening ho a'ldrcsspd the electors at the Paeroa Public; Hall, and was \ery warmly received. In tho course of his remarks he mentioned that some very important business had beeo done in tho House during his presence there, inter alia, the passing of the Consolidated Land and Land Transfer Acts. Under the provisions of these Acts land could be Rettled in five different ways. Ho alluded also to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Act, and stated that it was merely probationary, and would probably be much altered during the coming session. A number of questions were satisfactorily answered, and Mr Grace received a vote of confidence and thanks on the motion of Messrs Lipsey and C. F. Mitchell. On, Sunday Mr Grace, accompnnied by Mr W. S. Nicholls and Edwin Edwards, made a tour of the out districts, arming ut the Thames on Sunday night. On Monday morning the electors wore addre^ed at Kirikiri, Puriri and Hikutaia, votes of confidence and thankn being unanimous in all three place. A banquet to the member was given on Monday night at the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa. About 40 gentlemen were present and the entire affair passed off with much eclat. Mr Gracolcft for Taup'» via Karnngahake and Waitekauri (where confidence in him was again expressed) and is to attend Parliament on the 13th wheta he will in till probability move the Addressiri- Reply.
