CAMBRIDGE WEST SCHOOL CONCERT.

TO THB EDITOR. Sir, — " We can do what we like with the money," (the proceeds of the late concert held at Cambridge West) was the text of the report given by the retiring chairman of the Cambridge West School Committee on Tuesday night, 30th April. I believe, it was generally understood by the parents of the children attending the school, that the concert was got up for the purpose of raising fund* to fence in and clear the two acres lately secured from the Waste Lands Board, for which the committee raised the handsome sum of £18 for the much needed improvement of the children's playground. Strange to say, nothing has been done towards that object, and very little money is left to do it with. I think the retiring chairman, instead of flaunting his authority, and telling the people *' that they could do what they liked with the money," and if thete was anyone that came there and went away again not satisfied, he could have his halfcrown back again ; not if anyone thought the money was injudiciously expended (ungrateful man.) But there, "we can do what we like with the money." Had that gentleman courteously thanked the people for so kindly responding to their invitation, instead of tauntingly telling them "we can do what we like with the money, &c," it would not have drawn forth the reui.irks made by your humble servant, Householder. May 4th, 1886. I
