Hamilton West.

The annual mooting of householders was hold in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr J. B. Whyte, M.H.R., who opened the proceedings by readin? the advertisement calling the meeting. He also explaimcd the order in which the business should be taken. RKPOiir and Balvnoe-theet.—The secretary of the out-going committee, Mr Knox, read the balance-sheet for the year ending 31bt December, 1885, and also the balance-sheet for the expired portion of 1886. From these it appeared that the thr credit balance at the end nf the year stood at £7 Hs lOd, and at the date of meeting the credit was £16 6s Bd, the sum of £12 having been disbursed since January Ist. Mr Knox also read the following report from the headmaster:—l have to report that the number of f»ch"lu* is 184, as against 178 at the beginning of the la*t year. The numbers that passed at the standard examination l.vt August were: — Standard I, 14; 11, 28; 111, 24; IV, 12; V, 4; VI, 6. Total, 88. I have to thank nil those parents who send their children punctually and regularly, as irregular pupils ara an element which cause painful disturbance to school work.—J. M. Murray.

ELECTION OP COMMITTEE. Mr Knox moved that the following householders be elected a committee^ for the ensuing yeir:—Messrs Scott, G. Edgecumbe, Hume, Campbell, Tucker, Graham, and Knox. Mr "R. F. Sandes seconded the motion, which was put and carried. The Chairman then declared the above named gentlemen duly elected. Mr Knox apologised for the unavoidable absense of the chairman of the outgoing committee and the Mayor. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
