CENSUS RETURNS.
JDT TELItGRAPH.— PBRBB ASSOCIATION. J Wellington, Tuesday. The following census returns are available, subject to possible slight -alterations :— Boroughs: Wanganni, 4900; Thames, 4460; Invercargill, 5714. Electoral districts: Thames, 3038; Waikato, 2395; Waitotara, 5077 ; Egmont, 6429 ; Waitaki, 6853. Both Wanganui and Thames show a considerable decrease on the Registrar's estimate. Dr. Brown's estimate for the whole colony, based on the increase of births over deaths, and shipping returns, is 585,000, but a disturbing influence is the impossibility of ascertaining the number of people who go away without booking passages. The returns for the large towns are not yet in, and are not likely to be available for some time, owing to the large quantity of forms which have to be bandied and carefully checked. "'
