Tauwhare Sports.

There was a good attendance of the general public yesterday nt the sporti at Tauwhare, which were held under the auspices of the Waikato Land Association, fully 200 people being present. Tho arrangement made by the committee were excellent, the course for the running matches being marked with lines for the whole distance, thus keeping each competitor in his place and preventing jostling. ' The sky wan overcast, which made the day cool and pleasant for the occasion. The To Awauiutn Brass Band was in attendance, and enlivened the proceedings with musical selections during the day. The following id the record of the various contests. Maiden Flat Rack, 120 yds. Scratch. Ist. prize, 30s ; 2nd prize, 10*. 10 competitors. Time, 13sew. Simmons 2 Paltridge 2 Running High Jump. Ist. prize, 15s. There was only two competitors, and was won easily by McNeish. Height, 4ft. 9ii). J. McNeish 1 Hone 2 Tauwhake Cup, Ist. stage, 100 yds. Carter (17ft sin) 2 Hots' (under 10) Raoe, 150 yds. First prize 10*, 2nd prize ss. 8 entries. The boys got away well together. McKinnon came in a good second. E. Walker 1 McKinnon 2 One Milk Handicap. First prize £5, 2nd prize 30s. 3 entries. This was a very good race, Craig had the lead all the way. C. Craig 1 Hanuon 2 Kenny 3 200 Yabds Handicap. First prize 30s, 2nd prize 10a. Nine competed. D. Craig 1 A. Forrest 2 Waikato Champion Rack, 120 yds. First prize, £3; 2nd prize, 5«. Five entries. This resulted in a dead beat between D. Craig and Hockon, who contested the course again, when Hooken came in by half-a-yard. Hocken 1 D.Craig 2 Hurdle Race Handicap, 440 yd*. Jirst prue, £2 ; 2nd prize, 10s. Four competitors. The darkness was fast setting in, antf the event was scarcely visible, but was evidently run with spirit. Foote 1 F. Hocken 2 A big business was done at the Tauwhare Temperance Hotel, when & first class luncheon was obtainable. Dancing was kept up in the schoolroom with great spirit till the small hours of the morning, and gave a pleasant finish to a good day's holiday. '
