EASTER MONDAY.
The Ngaruawahia Racei, which took place yesterday on the new racecourse, wore a decided nucccss, between three and four hundred persons being present. The steward* and committee did all in their power to make the meeting attractive, and succeeded orainenlly. The Ngaruawithin Band, under Bandmaster Williams, added much to tho enjoyment of the meeting, and discoursed some excellent music. In addition to the usual " under-»nd-over men," the Siddall Family enlivened tho proceedings by giving an open air entertainmont, muili to the amusement of tho juvonilo portion of the community. Between the raced a match for £10 a-side between Mr J. R. K. HatrickV Don nnd Gra«hopi>or came riff, the former winning by half-a-length. The principal event (the Ngaruawahia Handicap) was simply reduced to a mutch between Mr Ja*. Muirs Dressmaker and Mr King'u Pussy Cat, and owing to Dressmaker being such a favourite very little betting took place. Young Arthur Petty wan thrown in one of the races, and it won thought at tho time that ho was injured, but fortunately he only received a severe shaking. The following i are the results :— Handicap Hurdle Race, of lOdovs. ; second horse to save his stakes. Over six flights of hurdle*. Distance, one mile and a-half. Mr P. Aubrey's b q Peiatu 1 Mr C. O'Grady's br q Argyle 2 Mr Grierson's eh in Nancy 3 Won easily. Maiden Plate, of fisovt. Distance about one mile and a quarter. Mr John Brownes Larry 1 Mr McMillan's b q Rangi 2 Won by half-a-length. NOARVAWAKIA HANDICAP, of 2030V1., 10 Eir cent, of stake to go to second horse, istance, about one mile and three-quar-ters. Mr Jm. Muirs eh m Dressmaker ... 1 Mr N. King's dark btn Pussy Cat ... 2 Dressmaker had it all her own way and won easily. Sbttlkrs' Race of S.sovb. Once round the course. Mr C.O'Grady'sbg Wild Irishman ... 1 Owing to our reporter leaving early we are unable to give the rosult of the last three races.
