PISCICULTURAL ITEMS.
The fcrout sent to Harapepe by the Secretary of the Hamilton Domain Board on Wednesday, arrived at Mr Hodgson's place, near Te Rore, all right, and were liberated in a creek on that gentleman's property. The trout, 40 in number, were packed in a tin vessel designed by Mr .T. M. Gelling, and were supplied with 201bs of ice, which kept them in perfect health the whole way. They were in charge of Mr Ceiling's son. There can be little doubt that the n»h will thrive admirably in the creeks runninpr down to the Wnipa from tho slopes of Firongia, and before long the bight of ah angler will not be uncommon. The young fish hatched out at Opawa have now made their appearance in very satisfactory numbers. The eggs were, says the Press, unusually small, being considerAbly less than those obtained from the tame reared American salmon of 21b and 31b at the Opawa fish breeding establishment. With this exception, Mr Johnson considers the shipment the most successful yet received of the English aalmon ova. A Southland angler is said to have caught during the laat season 10001b*. of trout in the Crete river.
