VI (Received April 7th, 12.30 p.m.) Sydney, Wednesday. The Colonial Treasurer, iv his Financial Statement last night,* estimated the revenue for the coming year at £8,340,000, and the expenditure £8,570,000, the latter being a reduction of £540,000 on the previous estimates. The proposal made is to extend the exemption ot thelimit from the income tax to a thousaud a year, but the consideration was adjourned till Thursday next. Melbourne, Wednesday. To-day, the Premier, the Hon. Mr Gillies received a despatch from Mr J. G. Thurston, Acting Governor of Fiji, strongly deprecating the French annexation of the New Hebrides, and declaring that the possession of Rapa was no compensation for loss. Adelaide, Wednesday. The early reconstruction of the South Australian Ministry is expected owing to personal reasons. It is expected that Messrs Spence and Hay will probably retire. i
Received April 7th, 7.30 p.m. Melbourne, Wednesday. It is announced that Mr Denham, Postmaster-General of Victoria, has accepted the proposal put forward by Lord Wolverton, British Postmaster-General,Jfor the establishment of a. parcel post between England and the colonies.
