Brisbane, April 6. Holt, the late manager of tho Bank of New Zealand at Sydney, was arrested here yesterday. He had assumed the disguise of a priest. When searched, 200 sovereigns and a bill of exchange for £500 were found in his possession. Evening. Holt was brought before the Police Magistrate to-day, and formally remanded to Sydney. Sydney, April 6. A public meeting was held last night to protest against tho possible annexation of the New Hebrides by France. There was a large attendance. The utmost enthusiasm prevailed. Resolutions protesting against the annexation were carried with acclamation. Melbourne, April 6. A crowd of some ten thousand people assembled at Smith-street, Collingwood, last night, but no serious damage was done, a few stores only having the windows broken. The police arrested seven of the most prominent leaders. Sailed, this afternoon : Ringarooma, for the Bluff. Albany, April 6. Arrived, this morning : Kaiser-i-Hind with the London mails to March 5.
