TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te ArOha, Friday.

Friday. Among the town improvements that have of late been made the most noticeable, next to those that havo been carried out by the Domain Board, is the forming of our principal thoroughfare, Whituker-street, which is now beginning to assume n more respectable appearance than it did in its former neglected state. The contractor has several men employed and is making good progress with the work he has undertaken, which consists only of the forming of the^treet on ita permanent level. It is to be hooped tpe county council will see its way to expend a further sum for metalling before the wet season sets in, because unless this is done things will be in no better condition than in the pa^t, as a few days' rain will again convert it into a miserable slough such as, it was in b_y-gone winters. , -s** Among the visitors of note to the baths at present is Sir Frederick' Whitakeri who with several members of his family is making a short stay here. In the town and and its surroundings, with the *rly proffreu of which his son, Mr «H>nqf JS» Whitaker, .was so largely identified, the veteran statesman will doubtless see much to interest him. The favourable conditions on which) today's excursion by rail (ro|n Auckland bin; been planned, should bring a targe number of visitors here. 'On this occasion as oh the previous trips of the kind the weather bids fnir to be propitious and to enhance the enjoyment of the pleasure seekers. For the short time that it has! been in existence the progress made by our "brass band is exceedingly satisfactory and the value of its occasional services is now being appreciated by the residents, a'number'of whom have recently enrolled themselves as honorary members. A considerable addition has been made to the band fund and several now instruments will forthwith be procured. If it continues to progress as it has done the organisation will be quite a credit to the town.
