The 1 Argus this morning publishes an kjithoritive denial of the rumours which have been current to the effect that the defalcation of Holt, the Sydney manager of the Bank of New Zealand, amounted to one and two thousand pounds. • Correspondence between the Victorian Government and the Imperial authorities on the New Hebrides question, published today, includes a telegram despatched on the 24th March by the Premier, the Hon. Duncan Gillies, to Mr Murray Smith, Agent-General, stating that if a surrender of the Nevr Hebrides to France was allowed to-day by Great Britain, Australia would assuredly take them back wheju,.she was able.
