"Pur outyour tongue a little further," said a physician to a female patient — "a little further, m.i'.un, if you pleA&e — a little further still." "Why, doctor, do you think there's no end to a woman's tongue ? " cried the fair inyjilid. A young officer hearing some one celebrating the exploits of a prince who had killed six lhen \fc'ith his own hand, " Bah !" said he, " I would have you to know that the very m.ittres&es I sleep upoinare stuffed with nothing else but the whiskers of those whom I have sent to blumbjr in the other world !" ' Stop His Pay.— L^rd Wolsely's refusal to pay fees to the Heralds' College for his new title,, and to the Ulster King of Arms anil bia officials for the insignia of St. Patrick, reminds me, says Atlas in the World, of a story of how a similar ex-j hibition of independence was dealt" with by George IV. A certain knight of Windsor was given the Order of St. Michael and St. Geoige, and after the investiture the usual account of fees wiw sent to him, which he swore nothing would induce him to pay. There was no precedent for such a case, so n memorandum was sent to Sir William Kingston at Windsor in order that the King's pleasure might £>c tyken. The document wav returned with the following endorsement written by Geoige IV. himself : — 'Stop the d d fellow's pay till this claim is chared.'
