FANCY DRESS BALL AT HUKANUI.
A i.aiu.k and gaily dressed thiong a>sembled in the Hukanui Hall on the evening of the 25th inst., when a well selected dance prograrrfine was gouo thiough, dancing being kept up until the d.iwn of day warned people that time\\a-> .ippioiching for their daily occupation to commence. The hall was well lighted, and tastefully decorated with ferns and evergreens. The music was skillfully performed, as uwal, by Mr J. Greenwood, occasionally rohawd by duets on tho clarionet and cornet by Messrs White and Munio. Great tiate was shown by tho Indies in the choice of their costumps, the most striking one being the pretty costume of a shepheidess, worn by Miss Husband, aNo the Misses Hiil'x (Hamilton), as "Queen of Diamonds" and •%Good I4iok<; n Morrison, "I'feh1 M,* Hlir (TaupiriV MvMf.? Miss White, "Swiss Peasant;" Mrs Moiling, "Night:" Jtfiss <Ede, "Flower Girl ;" and van<Wl j^tt^ri'. f'Xhe gentlemen looked well in" their' costumes as jockeys, ■ailors, niggord, cricketers, &c, &c.
