WELLINGTON, Thursday. It is understood that Captain Remit, of the ship Pleone, has been appointed resident agent for the Meat Freezing Company in London. He will endeavour to push the English trade in frozen and preserved meats. An Association has been formed here, having for its object the protection of hotel property, and to enable wine and spirit merchants, hotel keepers, brewers, and others interested in the trade, to combine in adoptiug such measures as are necessary to protect property and business iv connection with the trade. PALMERSTON NORTH. Friday. Tetford the winner of the Wanganui Cup met with a serious accident yesterday. Whilst being taken over in the punt at the lower ferry ho was restive and his hind legs were caught between the wire and the woodwork of the punt The wire was cut and the horse liberated His hind legs were considerably damaged. ____________
