TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te Aroha, Wednesday.
The R.M. Court sat yesterday, Mr H. Kenrick presiding. There was only one civil case, Smith and Seddon v. F. Booth, claim £9 18i lOd. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for full amount with costs, 10.s. In the Police Court M. Stensan was charged with drunkenness, and it being his first offence the nominal penalty of Is wainflicted. The a<tme person was arraigned for being illegally on the premises of Charles Smith, settler, Te Aroha. Some of the paiticulars disclosed in this case were such as to place the accused in a most serious position, and the magistrate was of opinion that a fuller inquiry should be instituted. Dealing with the case as it had been brought before him he would inflict the penalty of £o, or one rnonthV imprisonment. The tine was. immediiitoly paid. The first meeting of the new licensing committee was held in the court-house on KatuuUy last, when there w.i->a full attendance of members. The business was the .ippoititmuntof a cluinii.ui, and Mr J. A. Dubson was elected to fill th*s office.
