HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID ACT. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday.

A deputation, consisting on the Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Wellington Ho.spital Committee, waited on the Pi emier this afternoon, asking for assistance to carry on their functions, a.s they h.id rece,i\ed no money for the months of December and January from the Wellington or Hntt County Conncils, these local b<vdie.s holding that they were not liable. The Premier replied that the contributions levied on these bodies would be deducted from the subsidy due to them by the Government. In Auckland the same difficulty has arisen in connection with .several iocal bodies, and in each instance the Government would deduct the amount of contribution due to the Charitable Board from the amount of subsidy payable to the local bodies by the Government. The Premier said that in every instance where local bodies refused to contribute the amount assessed to them, such amount would be deducted from the Government subsidy to such bodies. So far as he could see while South, the Act was working well in Canterbury and Otago, the only borough refusing being that of Roslyn, and their contribution nad been deducted from the amount of Government subsidy due to .them.
